RISKAS SNICKERI – A CARPENTRY WITH OVER DECADES WORTH OF EXPERIENCE

Riskas Snickeri was originally established in 1947, but the carpentry in its current form started in 1980 when Bernt Riska, CEO and founder of Riskas Snickeri, was just 19 years old. Since then, the company has manufactured interior for sailboats, motorboats, ships and for public spaces as well. “My father Rurik, who was the Chief Carpenter at Nautor’s Swan, supported and helped me a lot in the beginning.” says Riska. He goes on to state “We have never strived to be the biggest; our goals have always been to achieve top quality and delivery security.”

Besides manufacturing interior to the highest standard, the company has endeavored to create a safe and positive atmosphere at the workplace. “This has been confirmed by the fact that most of those who have worked with us, have stayed for the majority of their careers, not to mention Tage Sandstedt who has been an invaluable member of our team for 40 years as of a few weeks ago.” says Riska.

A SHARED DERAM ABOUT INTRODUCING A NEW PRODUCT TO THE MARKET

Riska founded OQS together with Peter Granholm, Peter Skogvall and Kennet Skuthälla in 2010. “Our dream was to introduce a new yacht to the market that no one else in our area manufactured, while creating work for ourselves and for other subcontractors in the region.” he recalls.

The carpentry’s role in OQS has been, and still is to this day, to be in charge of the interior design and wood material choices for the clients. Riska has throughout his years in the industry noticed that often for the client, the construction and the planning is as interesting and important as sailing the yacht once its finished. Together with the client, they make their vision and desires come to life.

COMFORT IN PERSONALIZED SURROUNDINGS

When it comes to the interior in a catamaran, there are three main aspects that needs to be balanced; the interior should feel personal and practical, while it’s a well-known fact that the space on the yacht is limited. Open spaces are therefore a key to enable a good balance between these and to be able to move around comfortably inside in all kinds of weather conditions. The spacious and well-equipped interior layouts can be configured to meet the requirements of the owner. These are the frames the client and the yard work together within, to make the most of the inside of the yacht.

When mapping the visions and requirements of the client in the beginning, normally the yard gives some suggestions for the entirety, especially regarding the number of cabins, location of the pentry and bathrooms. From there, Riskas Snickeri and the client will go further into details as the project progresses.

MEETING THE CLIENT ALL THE WAY

“Details, type of woods, staining, varnishing and polishing can be varied endlessly.” Riska explains. Whether you prefer a more traditional or modern interior, there are a limitless number of alternatives that in the right combination will give emit your preferred vibe and be a reflection of you.

To illustrate the feeling of the final product to the client, before he or she must take any decisions, mockups can be manufactured to support the decision-making. “They are really good for grasping the idea of how large the spaces are and if the layout needs to be changed in any way. Normally, the customers are very committed and about half of the customers have their own designers involved, otherwise we come up with suggestions and samples of wood species and color samples of different stain shades as well as different varnishes and polishes.” the CEO and founder of Riskas Snickeri finishes.
